The top guns of the tournament, as expected, easily crushed their low rated opponents. GM Mark Paragua (2523), IM Barlo Nadera (2401), IM Rolando Nolte (ELO 2522) and GM Rogelio Antonio Jr. (2518) hardly sweat at all and wins their opening games in the fifth Prospero Pichay Sr. Memorial chess tournament at the Surigao del Sur Institute of Technology.
A total of P300,000 are at stake in the four-day tournament organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) where the winner will received P100,000 and a trophy.
