GM Jayson Gonzales fund raising simultaneous exhibition match at MERALCO



Last Saturday, October 10, the Philippines 9th grandmaster, Jayson Gonzales conducted a 24 board fund raising simultaneous exhibition match at Meralco basement canteen in Ortigas Pasig City. Gonzales posted 20 wins, 3 draws with 1 defeat. Pulsar, an unrated player and avid kibitzer from chessgames.com representing Barangay Wesley chess club scores that lone victory. The simul raised a total donation of P10,000. Donations proceeds to RP PARA chess team in their need to have new chess sets and also part of the donations goes to chess players of Meralco who fell victim to typhoon Ondoy like RP kiddies 12 under champ, Karen Enriquez, and Darryl Samantila, 9 and under champ. Also Albert of MCC and Wordfun of BW will received portions from the donations.

Last August, GM Joey Antonio first conducted a simul for the funding of the Malaysian bound RP PARA team which he coached, and GM Eugenio Torre follow through last September also for the same cause.

The fund raising event is being organized by the Meralco Chess Club. Rolly Sol Cruz, president of MCC and Lilet Bersamina, father of Paulo Bersamina.

25 boards pala ito, nalito na ako ng bilang. Thus, this is the highest particiaption so far with 7 from PARA participating.

Lubos ang pasasalamat nila dahil aside from the promised chess sets for them that will be awarded in the nov episode (with gm paragua), they are also getting the opportunity to play and sharpen their skills vs gm's.
