Off to Meralco for the RP PARA fund raising tournament

I'm off to Meralco today in Pasig. Just received an invitation from Mr Rolly Sol Cruz, President of Meralco Chess Club. The club is conducting a one day fund raising event for the benefit of our RP paralytic team coached by GM Rogelio Antonio. GM Eugene Torre is also expected to grace the friendly tournament.

Participating teams are La Salle Green Hills Chess Team, Barangay Wesley Chess Club (from, and the host club, MERALCO Chess Club

I have to rush now. See you there folks.

But hey, Kramnik beats Carlsen at Dortmund which is great! Kramnik definitely knows who he is going to beat. The tournament leader, who else?

The ASEAN PARALYMPICS-bound RP Para Team, led by partially blind Rudy Canonigo, won all the team matches in this single round 4-team 7-board fund-raising event for the benefit of our handicapped players. Brgy Wesley, MERALCO, & youthful La Salle GH won 1 match each with BW landing on 2nd spot with the best games points at 14.5 powered by Pulsar, Rustic Bull, Jet, & Spawn's 2 points a piece.

Canonigo and Francis Ching scored a perfect 3 out of 3 while Abe Peligro and Alexis Elinon tallied 2.5 a piece, Melchor Pizzaro has 1.5 while Rudy Sarmiento and Gigi Bilog contributed 1 pt each.

GMs Eugene Torre and Joey Antonio graced the simple opening ceremony and give inspirational messages to the plaayers.

La Salle's Rhal Sol Cruz has the best performance among the kids with his 2 wins vs PARA's Pizarro and MERALCO's guest player Catolos.

Final Standings
1st - RP PARA, 14.5 pts
2nd - Brgy WESLEY, 11.5
3rd - MERALCO, 10.0
4th - La Salle, 6.0
