Never mind that the Battle of GMs III is not as star studded as the previous editions without the participation of other Filipino veteran GMs like GM Bong Villamayor who returned to Singapore, GM Mark Paragua is currently campaigning in the US and GM Eugene Torre who appears to be already semi retire from playing serious chess and has engaged with other commitments outside chess. Wesley So is competing and as long as he is winning, local chess fans is still on it.
So after three rounds, it's three for tree for So and is currently sharing the top spot with GM John Paul Gomez. In the first round, So defeated the come backing IM Julio Catalino Sadorra, FM Haridas Pascua in the second round and FM Jan Emmanuel Garcia in the third. GM John Paul Gomez defeated IM Oliver Dimakiling in the first round and downed GM elect Ronald Dableo in the second.
By the way there's also a Women's section at the Battle of GMs. But the moment we got enough information from our friends, we will update them here. Mikee Suede is currently leading the section.

GM Gonzales withdrawing???
Something might be really wrong on how things are in Philippine Chess...true there are a LOT of events...BUT what kind of program are we going to this direction...ano puro tournament na lang ba? bakit walang malinaw na programa sa mga mananalo lalo na sa mga bata...at bakit WALANG TRAINING at PREPARASYON sa dadating na ASEAN sa Subic? Malamang magkakalat na naman tayo kagaya noong 2005!! Hinakot ng Vietnam lahat ng GOLD MEDALS SA BOTH MEN AND WOMEN!! Tayo itlog!
Sa totoo lang walang matinong programa para sa lahat ng levels kahit sa ELITE...paano pa ang mga nasa baba...dami ngang tournament kaso walang continuity kung saan pupunta at goals...
Malapit na naman ang 2010 ASIAN GAMES at 2010 Olympiad...wala na namang training at turo turuan na naman...BAKIT HINDI NATIN PAG-ARALAN ito at bigyan ng direksyon...malinaw na programa at kung saan ba napupunta ang mga ginagastos dito ng mga sponsors or organizers...
AASA NA LANG BA TAYO PALAGI KAY GM WESLEY SO...palaging ganito ang nagyayari...hindi ito naiiba sa panahon ni GM Eugene Torre...sya lang rin ang nagbibigay talaga ng karangalan sa ating bayan...kung baga madami ngang GMs kaso pag nag GM na, wla na hanggang doon na lang...sana hwag mahawa si Wesley dito. sayang ang God given talent nya...
