World U-16 Chess Olympiad: Philippines crushed no.1 seed Russia 3-1 but still fell down to 3rd place

Now how cruel was that? You crushed the tournament leader and no.1 seeded team but instead of finding yourself at the top of the standings, you are back at third place. But that is actually the case. Team Philippines overcome a herculean task by defeating the tough Russian team hoping to take the no.1 spot but it all appeared that their effort was not enough, no thanks to superb showings of 2nd seed India who defeated 6th seed Georgia 3 1/2- 1/2 and Armenia who blanked 9th seed, England 4-0. As a result, India and Armenia shared the lead with 19 1/2 points and the Philippines relegated to no.3 spot with three more rounds to play. GM Wesley So remains the heart and soul of the team as he continue to dominate his lower rated opponents this time by beating IM Shimanov Aleksandr (2480). Haridas Pascua (2171) humbled Yaksin, Oleg (2307), Alcon John Datu (2138) subdued WFM Bodnaruk Anastasia. The only casualty of the day was Jan Emmanuel Garcia (2232) who bowed to Iljiushenok Ilia (2315).
